What is a Shiatsu massage?

Shiatsu (jap. „shi“: finger, „atsu“: pressure) is a Japanese technique of the finger pressure massage, based on the principles of acupressure. Thereby, the Shiatsu massage combines different pressure massage techniques such as roll, tapping and kneading massage.

The intent of the Shiatsu massage is to increase the physical, spiritual and emotional well being. Not only does this sophisticated massage technique loosen and relieve your muscles, but it also enhances your entire well-being – you will feel fresher, healthier and simply better.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, twelve different energy conducting paths (the so-called meridians) run through the body and provide for the balancing of Qi, the energy of life. They are linked to special organs, elements and qualities.  The energy paths reach the body surface on 350 points of the human body and can be stimulated as acupuncture points. But Shiatsu stimulates not only these single points, but also treats your body along the meridians.

Recreation for body and soul

The background of the principle is the knowledge of the Qi, the old-Asian doctrine of the energy of the life. If the Qi is blocked, there is an imbalance that can cause pain and health disorders. Soft pressure on specific acupressure points removes the blockages in the energy paths and brings the flow of the Qi back to the right balance. The Shiatsu massage will be performed on the entire body. It serves for relaxation, but also for the easing of functional blockages. Among them, there are joint and muscle disorders, back pain, problems with the digestive system, stress or migraines. But the Shiatsu technique is also an effective means for the prevention of back problems, tensions or for the retention of the general health.

The principle of the Shiatsu massage

The principle of the Shiatsu massage is to release the energy flow by means of pressure on the acupuncture points, to set the so called life energy free and to consequently stimulate the general well-being.  According to Chinese medicine, this means that a correct massage of the acupressure points of the back can stimulate all organs and the soul in equal measure. The entire energy flow is positively influenced. Thus, the Shiatsu massage not only stretches and relaxes your muscles; it also stimulates the blood flow and harmonizes metabolism and nervous system.
